A Brief History on Kit Kat Chunky in the United States

Kit Kat has become one of the most popular sweet treats in the world. In the United States alone, sales of Kit Kat bars have topped $2 billion per year. While many people assume that Kit Kat was invented in Japan, that is far from the truth. The story of how the Kit Kat came to be, from a simple chocolate bar to a world-famous candy store, is fascinating and entertaining.

When the first version of Kit Kat hit the American market, it was called Kit-chan-Ri, which means "Spotted Rooster" in Japanese. The company that developed Kit Kat had no other intentions but to bring this sweet confection to the American market. The first flavour was originally called Rooster Butte. When the company decided that they wanted to launch a different flavouring and hence different bars, they changed the name to Kit Kat Chunky. While the chocolate bar was originally only available in Japan, due to the success of its first flavour, Kit Kat decided to launch a variety of variations in order to tap the American market.

After making three flavours and two kinds of chocolate balls, the New York factory decided that it was time to expand their product line. After all, their success had been so great that they were now able to make several different products, such as; Kit Kat Chunky, Kit Kat Swiss, and Kit Kat Carrot Top. In order to keep up with demand, the factory opened a fourth factory in Japan. This time, however, they expanded into candy manufacturing and began mass-producing candy bars, not just for Kit Kat Chunky but for all of their other flavours, such as; Laffy Taffy, Lemon Drops, Minty Caramel and more. They also expanded their gumball division and began selling gumballs, gummies and fudges in grocery stores.

So, how did all of this affect Kit Kat? Well, sales in the U.S. jumped by about thirty percent. So not only were Americans buying the chocolate, but they were also buying Kit Kat Chunky, instead of going to a candy store. The New Zealand factory, on the other hand, started manufacturing chocolate bars that included flavours like mango and passion fruit, since these particular flavours are much more popular in Japan.

The fourth major influence on Kit Kat Chunky's new flavours in the U.S.A. was when Laffy Taffy was taken over by Hershey, a Hershey chocolate manufacturer located in Pennsylvania. Hershey, which had also manufactured Candies in Canada (namely, Baby M&M's and their "Tick Tocks" candies) decided to modify their product line and include an American flavour, "Chocolates" in addition to their existing chocolate bars. Many people, including Kit Kat Chunky fans, loved this decision because they wanted to be able to experience U.S. chocolate with a flavour that was closer to home.

So in summation, Kit Kat Chunky has really made it big in the U.S. markets. Kit Kat Chunky chocolate bars are everywhere and can be found at most chain stores such as Target, Walmart, and K-Mart. You can even buy them online! As mentioned earlier, there are even more "made in Japan" Kit Kat Chunky chocolate bars available, and you can definitely find some in the "real" United States markets too. So whether you're from the U.S., want to try a new flavour or just like chocolate, you'll likely have a variety of choices available to you.
