All About Hi-Chew, a Unique Gum

Hi-Chew is a very popular Japanese fruit snack sold by Morinaga & Co. The candy is made from the Chewing Stick Fruit of the same name and is also known as Hi-Chew. In Japan, this fruit is called Morinda Citrifolia or the "candy cherry". It is very similar to an actual cherry in appearance, except that its size is somewhat smaller and it is a lot of red. The flavor of Hi-Chew consists of a mixture of citrus rind and raspberry, with a hint of spice.

The texture of Hi-Chew is quite thin, so it's considered to be a fruity candy. The main ingredients used to create this type of candy are sugar, artificial flavours, fruit acids (red and orange), natural flavors and colors from the actual fruit. Due to its distinct texture, the candy is produced in many different shapes such as round, square, egg-shaped, pear and square bars.

This delicious sweet has been created over several years in order to gain international recognition and is now available for purchase in various international markets. Prior to this, the only way to obtain Hi-Chew was to purchase individually wrapped candy bars from vending machines located in Japanese restaurants and food courts. Individuals who could not afford to buy Hi-Chew bars due to their limited budget would then just have to settle for the individual wrappers. However, the popularity of these individual wrappers led to the rise in demand for these looser, sweeter chew toys.

Hi-Chew candy became so popular that many companies outside of Japan recognized its unique, chewy texture and decided to reproduce it themselves. Over the years Hi-Chew candy became popular in the United States, being one of the first "gumball" products to be imported into the U.S.. As the demand increased, companies began to produce gumball games and television shows which involved playing with these uniquely shaped sweets. Loose versions of the gumball game were also released for children to play at home. Eventually, Hi-Chew candy became so well-known that it spawned its own lines in the United Kingdom.

The creation of Hi-Chew was initially intended to be a Japanese innovation and was instead made into a western blend by American candy manufacturers. In the west, Hi-Chew was quickly embraced by consumers because of its unique candy texture. The candy's thick, chewy texture was originally created through the mixing of several kinds of fruits and nuts. For example, the majority of the mix would be combinations of nuts such as cashews, walnuts and peanuts. The combination of flavors gave birth to the west's most popular chew toy.

Today, Hi-Chew continues to grow in fame. One reason for this is the fact that the gum has proven to be a healthier alternative than most other candies. It is rich in vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin D and potassium, which are essential in maintaining a healthy diet. Furthermore, the gum's unique texture does not contribute to the production of obesity, a major health problem in the United States. Another benefit of the fruit-based suite is that it can actually aid in digestion and promote proper body functions, such as energy levels.
