Alternatives to Soda Flavours
Have you ever wondered why soda is so fattening? It's true that the carbonation in soda adds calories and makes it a great substitute for real sugar but that doesn't mean that all the other ingredients are completely useless. For example, one of the reasons soda has such a flat taste to it (at least when you're drinking it) is because of the 'gummy' carbonation and the way it tricks your taste buds into thinking it has more 'liquid'. Now I'm not sure if you've ever had a really good gummy soda or not but it does exist and it's usually a very popular type of soda with young people. The problem with this particular brand of soda is that its carbonation levels are higher than most others and as a result you get a higher calorie gummy drink.
If you've ever been to a party that had really high calorie gummy soda, you probably know how difficult it can be to avoid it. If you're at a party of any kind where you're not particularly worried about calories then the temptation will always be there to 'go with your gut' and try something new. This is especially true when it comes to pop. Many people like the taste of soda better but they are more limited in how healthy it can be. One solution is to keep your soda at arm's length and try something else.
For example you can always go to a soda store and buy small plastic bottles of diet soda, which is essentially just the same thing you'd get at a regular store but without the added sugar and carbonation. If you want to go all out and try something really outrageous then you can always try one of those gumball machines that drops gummy candies into a glass bottle with a lid. The only problem with these types of candy is that they don't really taste anything like a soda. You could also try getting a large bottle of Mountain Dew and simply pouring some of it into a glass.
Another idea is to go for a very unhealthy snack. Have you ever eaten a potato chip cookie? If you have then you probably agree that they are delicious and offer some good crunchy bite. Unfortunately they do not have very much nutritional value so trying to eat them may actually do more harm than good. So if you're out and about and come across a candy like this try something different.
Instead of trying to eat these gummy candy drinks try something much tastier. There are plenty of alternatives available to replace soda. Some drinks like orange soda or diet cola or even plain old water are great alternatives for drinking while you're out. In fact there are entire beverage and food products industry that have switched to sugar free, low calorie, low fat, high quality, all natural drinks as an after product or even before the food. Some of the best examples include: soy milk, fruit cordial, organic coconut milk, organic grape juice, non-fat yogurt, and non-sugar cottage cheese.
So if you're out and about and want to have a tasty soft drink, try some of these alternatives instead. You'll find that your breath will smell better, your tummy will feel better, you'll be less prone to snacking, and that you don't have to settle for the traditional soda flavour when you can have something better. So the next time you reach for the can try these alternatives instead and enjoy a much healthier alternative.
