It can also mask unpleasant taste characteristics, so if you're allergic to some types of food, it's probably not something you want to expose your Airheads bites to. Although most manufacturers use food coloring to give gum a nice natural look, it can also cause allergic reactions. If it's really necessary for you to put your Airheads bites into gum, look for a sugar alternative that doesn't include food coloring.
Another questionable ingredient that may sneak its way onto your favorite gums is blueberries. While blueberries make great gummy candies, they also can have a strong blue tinting to them. Although some claim it's a great addition to the gum, other say that it distracts from the taste of the candy itself. If you don't want to give up all your favorite flavors just because your gum has blueberries in it, opt for a different type of candy bar. There are lots of choices on the market without blueberries in them.
Another thing to steer clear off your Airheads bites are citrus flavors. Things like grapefruit, orange, and even green apple have strong citrus flavors and are not exactly the best thing to put into your airheads bites. Most people try to avoid citrus flavors or any high acidic flavors for that matter, as they can add tartness to your oral health. However, some can be safe enough to eat on their own. If you do decide to eat those tangy gummy candy bars though, reserve them until you have completely gotten rid of all the excess gum.
