Facts About the Reese Peanut Butter Cup
Reese Peanut Butter Cups or Reeses as they are called in America are a popular candy that is loved by many. These mouth watering delightfully sweet candies can be bought at many retail stores and are carried in almost all grocery stores and even some pharmacies. In fact, there are packets of these candies that are sold in drug stores. There is no doubt that they are very popular and that is probably why they have made it to the shelves of almost every American kitchen. A little bit of food history and some history on the manufacture of this wonderful snack is necessary to appreciate this American favorite.
Reese Peanut Butter Cups was first available in the United States in May of 1928. They were manufactured by H. B. Reese a former mining foreman and shipping clerk for the Hershey Company. He had developed an early version of the chocolate candy by mixing nuts and milk. This was the first variation that we know of today as Reese Peanut Butter Cups.
The candy has always been a top-selling candy. In fact, Reese Peanut Butter Cups was the bestselling confectionary in the U.S during one period. There is no question that the confectionary enjoyed great popularity because of its top-selling status. As we mentioned before, during this period, Reese Peanut Butter Cups was the top selling candy, enjoying sales of over three million pieces a year! The huge demand for the candies led manufacturers to introduce various variations.
The first variations that were offered in stores were the basic, white, peanut butter cups. They became so popular that major manufacturers such as Hersheypark and Tootsie Roll Industries were forced to develop their own versions of the original. In fact, their versions are almost as good as the originals!
The first variations that were released to the market were the traditional, peanut butter and jam varieties. However, some time later, they were also released with a creamy filling. Some even came with a cherry filling. One day, they just simply became known as Reese Peanut Butter Cups.
The original product brand variations included various types of fillings. At one point, there were only white chocolate and white peanut butter, and there were only plain chocolate and plain peanut butter. After this, there were brown chocolate, strawberry chocolate, peanut butter and lemon chocolate, and then white chocolate and white peanut butter.
There have been other seasonal Reese Peanut Butter cup product portfolio variations released, as well. They include chocolate peanut butter cups that were released in the fall, along with caramel, spice, and vanilla flavors. They also released "Gingerbread" versions that were similar to the traditional jelly beans. Their Valentine's Day cup product portfolio had red and white chocolate and caramel. And of course, Halloween 2021 brought the world the "Merry Valentine" variety, which included red and white chocolate, nuts, caramel, vanilla, and chocolate covered berries.
There are a few different sizes of Reese Peanut Butter Cups individually-packaged, as well. They are available in a small, medium, large, and double servings. Each has a varying amount of sugar per serving, and there are several sizes of individually-packed peanut butter cups - some are smaller, some are larger, and some are double serving sizes.
When it comes to Reese Peanut Butter Cups, there are several different manufacturers that have various styles of packaging. One of the most popular variations is the individual cup. These are the same style of packaging seen with the larger cup brand variation, but they are slightly larger and most likely not labeled with the candy. Smaller variations of the Reese Peanut Butter Cup include larger individually-packed candy bars that look similar to jelly beans, but there is not a lot of information on the package. Some other variations of the Reese Peanut Butter Cup include bags, jars, boxes, bags and jars.
The earliest variation of Reese Peanut Butter Cups that was available in early 2000s included the traditional jelly beans, which were individually-packed in bags. The second variation that was available in early 2021 was the inclusion of nuts in the candy. As of this writing, the chocolate-hazelnut is the only variation that has ever been released. Nuts are never being added to the Reese Peanut Butter cups ever again.
Another interesting thing about Reese Peanut Butter cups is that despite the fact that there are numerous different styles, the Reese Peanut Butter cup brand variety is never officially introduced until the chocolate makers bring out their new flavors in the fall of each year. One example of this is how the chocolate manufacturers always bring out new flavors with limited options of when they will be released. So whether you like the chocolate fudge flavor, chocolate brownie flavor, cinnamon toast topping, chocolate cake topping or any other type, the Reese Peanut Butter cup variety is never officially introduced until the new flavors are introduced. The interesting thing about this is that in all of the years that this product line has been released, consumers still seem to be looking for new flavors.
