Hi-Chew - What is It?
Hi-Chew is a delicious Japanese fruit snack sold by Morinaga & Company Ltd. This sweet candy has become extremely popular all over the world. The original recipe for Hi-Chew was created in 1948. The original formula was based on an accident during a marketing research study; the product was created when a scientist pushed his hand against a red patch which turned out to be a leaf. The product got the worldwide recognition when Morinaga & Company introduced the candy to Japan.

Original Hi-Chew contains 42% Vitamin C, which is the most important vitamin in providing healthy skin and teeth. The main ingredients of this sweet candy include fructose (fructose corn syrup), soy flour, artificial vanilla flavor, calcium carbonate, orange peel (a natural preservative), orange blossom (antioxidant), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), white rum flavor, wheat flour, xanthan gum, and marshmallow powder. These ingredients combine perfectly to create a delicious, nutritious, and therapeutic candy which is loved by children and adults alike.
Hi-Chew features several different flavors such as Acrofruit, Blueberry Chew, Banana Twirl, Black Chocolate, Coconut, Doughnut, Golden Fudge, Hawaiian Punch, Lemon Chiffon, Mandarin Orange, Mango, Pear, and Watermelon. Each of these flavors can be combined with Hi-Chew candy in special called "Mixed Pack" offerings. Some versions of Hi-Chew feature raspberry or cardamom flavors for added taste, while others are more herbal with a taste reminiscent of lemons.
Hi-Chew's most popular assortment of candies is the fruit gum ball. These soft, tasty balls of candy are available in a variety of exciting flavors. The fruity flavor of Hi-Chew gives these fruity gums a smooth and chewy texture which is great for sucking on while watching TV or reading a book. These gum balls are also great for playing with young children. Small gum balls that resemble talons can be placed inside toy cars, making them perfect for an afternoon in the car.
Since Hi-Chew was introduced in the United States, there have been many arguments over which are the real manufacturers. Many people feel that Hi-Chew is really a trademarked name owned by Philip Hawkin who does the manufacturing of the actual gumballs. Whether this is true or not, one thing is certain: Hi-Chew candies are an outstanding offering in the candy industry. Children love them and parents enjoy them because they are good for their teeth, good for their health, and a healthy snack for anyone on the go.
While Hi-Chew was first introduced in the United States, it was actually invented in Japan in the 1970s. A fruit called Hi-imbine was cultivated and used to create what we know today as Hi-Chew. The fruit contains natural Vitamin C and a type of starch that are harder and more chewy than traditional candies. In addition to this nutritious and flavorful fruit filling, Hi-Chew has incorporated a number of fruits into its candy, including apples, strawberries, pineapple and passion fruit.
