History of the Kit Kat Bar, Canada's Wafer Bar

The story of how the Kit Kat, once a British chocolate delivery, became an instant business in Japan and changed all expectations about what a chocolate bar can be. The seven-store giant Don Quijote superstore in the Shibuya district of Tokyo is open twenty-four hours a day, six days a week, but it's hard to say if it s particularly busy at rush hour. It does have a very unique design that incorporates both western and Japanese elements into an experience unlike any other on the planet.

Kit Kat

The original Kit Kat chocolate bar was a Japanese confectionary called Misono. It contained rice mixed with nuts such as cashews and macadamia. In order to make the chocolate sauce a proper thickness, the recipe required an entire cup of milk. When translated to North American terms, that amount of milk would become two tablespoons of margarine.

When it first entered the US, Kit Kat was primarily a sweets product and not intended to be enjoyed in its original form. The manufacturer of Kit Kat bars targeted at the teenage market, thinking that children would find it appealing, especially since it was made of chocolate. Kit Kat was meant to be enjoyed in its original form, so it contained no artificial sweeteners or flavors and was coated in dark chocolate. Kit Kat was not meant to be a snack but rather a dessert.

The second part of the story involves international marketing. In Canada, Mieko's chocolate bars were considered a symbol of unity and peace. Since Canada is a country where there is a large multicultural population, Kit Kat proved to be a great platform for advertising. Since Canada is a much smaller market than the US, this proved to be a wise decision for Mieko, as well as for its distributors.

The wafer bars became popular in the United States initially as a sweet treat, although many people enjoyed it for its nostalgic appeal. Over time, the wafer bar became more popular among American consumers as a place to store chocolate. There are many Kit Kat bars available throughout the United States. Many bars feature the red, white and blue of the American flag, and some display a maple leaf logo. Some display the Fleur de lis symbol, which is also used on the emblem of the United States military. While there are many symbols used to promote commerce between the two countries, the two markets share more in common with the wafer bar.

The wafer bar has become more of a kitchen and holiday item than a candy bar in the United States. Candy bars have a short shelf life and once per person is allowed, cannot be refilled. Kit Kat bars last for quite some time, even after being consumed, making them a better choice for gifting.
