How the Reese Peanut Butter Cup Came to Be

Reese Peanut Butter Cups is American candy pieces made of a chocolate flavored jelly cup filled with creamy peanut butter that is dipped in a reddish brown caramel sauce. They were originally developed on November 15, 1928, by H. B. Reese a former shipping clerk and dairy farmer for the Hershey Company. They are designed to look like an actual peanut butter sandwich. Today, Reese Peanut Butter Cups can be purchased in a variety of different varieties, including those with no caramel and natural sugars, and are decorated accordingly.
Reese Peanut Butter Cups became extremely popular very quickly. They were initially sold at local grocery stores and were a huge hit. It was not long before they were introduced to other grocery stores and began to experience increased popularity. Their original dark chocolate flavor stayed the same for years, but after that year they began to add various flavors such as milk chocolate, banana nut, and chocolate covered pretzels to their line of products.
In February of 2021, Reese Peanut Butter Cup returned to the grocery store shelves, this time with a new twist. The original cup was designed with a very large chocolate "pin" in the center of the cup, much like a football has a "pin" on the top of it. The company believed that the large chocolate "pin" would symbolize a long, warm summer day, and therefore made the new cup darker, to fit the same concept. This time around, the chocolate "pin" was actually a rainbow of colors, which some consumers found to be more appealing than the chocolate syrup that had previously been used. For this product variant, Reese was also introducing a very limited edition product, which contains the same large "pin" design.
The second major product change was the addition of a new topping to the Reese's peanut butter sandwich. Since the first version of the sandwich is already a rich chocolate treat, the addition of chocolate was not considered a major change. However, the addition of chocolate to the sandwich was met with strong resistance from consumers, who considered it an interference with the taste of the traditional cup sandwich. After all, most consumers consider chocolate an unnecessary ingredient, and the addition of it to a sandwich is almost a given. As a result, in March of 2021, Reese Peanut Butter Cup released another variation of their famous sandwich, replacing the traditional chocolate topping with a mixture of Wham Bars. Many people considered the new combination to be inferior to the old fashioned chocolate, and in many cases they were right.
Reactions to the Reese Peanut Butter Cup sandwich remained largely positive for the duration of the product's run. In addition, many people considered the new filling a better alternative than the "junk" fillers that were frequently included in traditional peanut butter cups. After all, what's Junk is sometimes considered to be just as bad as the chocolate that was previously used in a Reese's product. In some cases, the replacement of the chocolate topping was met with mixed reviews, however. Some consumers considered the wham Bars to be a better choice, especially because the fillings are less likely to cause diarrhea.
Like many other popular snack foods, including Hostess snacks and Fritos, Reese Peanut Butter Cups also faced the challenge of attracting a diverse consumer base. While many traditionalist consumers were hesitant to purchase a product brand that contained chocolate, there were some who gave the product a try. The biggest factor that contributed to this positive reception was the promotion of the cup as a healthier alternative to other forms of peanut butter. For example, unlike other types of peanut butter sandwich, the Reese Peanut Butter Cup offers a significantly lower amount of trans fat, sugar and salt, as well as fewer calories and fewer fat grams overall.
After launching on numerous national television shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Oprah Show, the Reese Peanut Butter Cups quickly became a sensation. People from across the country flocked to local supermarkets in search of this delicious new offering. The packaging design received a lot of positive feedback as well. The big cup has a fun character on the front, resembling a hand with "Reese" signifying the brand. On the back of the package, the simple message "Reese Pies" can be seen. This simplicity, along with the "Reese's Pieces" symbol that can be found at the bottom of each cup, made this product extremely easy to market.
Because the Reese Peanut Butter Cup was so popular in its early days, confections similar to these have been produced and sold under the name "Reese's Pieces". These pastries were made with pieces of the real Reese's chocolate rather than the lighter chocolate that are used for the standard Reese's peanut butter cups. While there have been some attempts to bring these confections back into production, nothing has ever been able to equal the original product. In addition, the product line has also expanded since it first gained popularity. Today there are several different versions of the original Reese's piece, making them a favorite for many people.
