How to Make the Most of Traditional and Custom Candy Molds
Clear plastic toy candy is an old traditional confectionery which originated in Germany, England, and Scotland. It is particularly popular at Christmas and Easter. The traditional hard candy tends to be made in multiple fanciful shapes, usually in various colors. The candy has always been tinted in bright colors, typically red, yellow and green.
Philadelphia was the first American city to develop this sweet sugary confection. In fact, the very first candy store ever opened in Philadelphia was established close to what is now known as the First Presbyterian Church. It opened in 18prise, near what is now called Wissin Chapel on Spruce Street, in what is now what is known as the Arts District. Sweets such as chocolate bars and penny sweets were sold there, along with other candies. In fact, sweet candy itself was referred to as "chocolate" in the German Village. Sweets that are referred to today as candy, are not really candy at all, but are hard candy, or conching, as some refer to it.
While the Sweets Shop on Wissin Chapel Road eventually closed down, the candy store that remained on the same spot lasted until 1890. As time passed, the business population of the area slightly increased, but the business that made and sold sweets stayed the same. As more people started to come into the neighborhood and the demand for sweets grew, the sweets store became more successful. Eventually the candy store was still standing, and it was then that the name "Sweets Shop" was born.
Sweets Shop still makes its candy products today, just in different forms. You can purchase German chocolate, American candy, and a variety of other German and American-made clear toys and gifts. Some of these products may be imported from Germany, Italy, and France, but most of the candy you see in America is made right here in the United States.
Many American manufacturers produce German candy that uses the same mold that Hot Chocolate, Jell-O, and other American candy makers use. This mold is known as a "hard candy mold". The difference between the German and American molds is that the German molds are made without the use of a releasing agent so that the candies do not melt. These hard candy molds are popular with American candy makers because it allows them to make more shapes and colors using the same mold. You will see more American candy being made this way because it is cheaper.
In addition to hard candy molds that are used to make German and American candy, there are also crescent shape mold makers that you will find at specialty shops in your area. A crescent mold maker will allow you to create different shaped versions of your traditional clear toy candy. No matter what kind of mold you decide to use, you will have a wide array of unique candy shapes to choose from. As you can see, if you are looking for an all-American look, then you will not be disappointed. You will be able to find exactly what you want to create and it will all be created in the United States.
