How to Make Your Own Toy Candy

Clear plastic toy candy called "Slush Puppies" is an old traditional confectionery which originated in Germany, England & Scotland. It's especially popular at Christmas and Easter. Basically, the toy candy is mass-produced in a myriad of imaginative shapes, usually in cute shapes like animals, angels, fairies and pumpkins. It's typically produced in clear plastic molds.

The color range is pretty much limited to the standard yellow, green and red. It also comes in many other colors but those are the most popular ones. What's so nice about Slush Puppies is that the quality and consistency of the candies remain high even after several years of usage! So in case you've forgotten what the big secret behind Halloween candy really was (or if you just haven't got round to trying them yet), here it is!

All you need to do to make your own Slush Puppy is basically melt some chocolate chips, add some marshmallows and some candy sprinkles to the mix. Mix it till it melts. Then pour it into small jars or tins. If you want to add a little bit of something extra, you could sprinkle some miniature chocolate chips on top of the mix before putting it into the jars or tins. It will really add some special flavor to your candies!

Another thing you can do with the melted chocolate, marshmallow and candy sprinkles that you've gathered is decorate them into different shapes. It can be anything from an elephant to a top hat! If you're feeling creative, you can try to design the candy from pictures that you have taken, cut it out or trace it on paper. How about a Dalmatian, a lion, a pineapple, a Santa Claus, a snowman, a penguin, a truck, a boat... There are so many things you can do with your candies that you'll probably end up making more than one batch!

When it comes to wrapping the candies, you have two options. The first one is to use a normal decorated wrapper, or to wrap them in newspaper, or even better yet, use a baby blanket! I'm sure once your children see what you have made for them, they will want to help you by tearing off one corner or both. You can be sure that this won't be a problem for them when they get home with all those bundles of candy!

Finally, you need to let your candies cool off. You can do this by placing them in an airtight container. However, if you're feeling a bit adventurous you can pop them in the fridge for an hour or so. If they're not kept in the fridge they will harden and start to taste nasty!
