Keep Your Airheads in Good Condition
Airheads are small candies made by Italian-Dutch company Perfetti Van Melle of Erlanger, Kentucky. They are also known as Sour Belts or Candy Airheads because of the distinctive flavor and color that they give when they are melted and flattened. The candy is made out of crushed ice or concentrated gum and sometimes also has small pieces of metal incorporated into it. It is not surprising to know that the name Airheads came from a gum product that was popular in England and the United States during the 19th century. The term "airhead" actually means "little air" in English.
These tasty gums have been used to be a substitute for chewing gum in old days because it tastes much better. However, the flavor and the appearance soon became too common for people to continue to use it that way. Because of this, the company made a decision to reformulate the gum and improve it again so it would appeal to a more modern market. They succeeded by introducing a gum that has a sweet flavor combined with the tartaric acid found in tea and coffee. This improved gum gave them a new market and a whole new clientele.

It is highly toxic in large amounts but because it adds flavor to the gum it is okay to have a little.
The problem comes when you start adding too much of it. Airheads have been known to become irritated by tartaric acid and can result in gum lines and irritation if not enough is removed. To combat this problem, it is recommended that you only add a small amount to your normal gum load. Another handy tip is to use airheads that are not flavored. Not only are these gum lines less offensive, you will likely find that they are easier to remove once they have formed.
Although gum lines are inevitable with every age bracket, Airheads can help make them less noticeable. All it takes is a little bit of time and diligence to keep your airheads in good condition. Just be sure to brush after each meal or rinse with water and you should be just fine.
