Kit Kat - The Great Spread!

Among all the candy bars and other sweets that have become popular in recent years, few have achieved nearly universal appeal. Kit Kat is perhaps the best known of these sweets. Originating from the United Kingdom in late 1935, these candy bars quickly became known to the general public as a relatively tasty alternative to a traditional chocolate bar. The simple Kit Kat name, however, comes from a much older literary and political organization which was held at the pies and cake store many years before.

The basic Kit Kat design features an assortment of candy kats arranged in a circular pattern. The Japanese call this pattern "sensei," which literally means circle of life." In United States, however, the name has become almost synonymous with Kit Kat. A more likely origin of the name is probably due to the extremely popular tie-dyed candy bar, which features the figure of a child in a dress. The tie-died coating on the candy bar became so identified with Kit Kat that the candy bar quickly became known simply as Kit Kat.

Like many of the other candy bars sold throughout the world, Kit Kat was initially created with one particular aim in mind: to provide children with a healthy snack. Although the initial intent seemed clear (that is, providing children with a healthy and enjoyable snack), research has shown that the candy bar has a second purpose. That second purpose is to promote eating and weight control in a way that might not be obvious to Western eyes. By helping children to develop the sense that good nutrition and exercise (in moderation) are important for their well being, the candy bar can subtly influence behavior. The ties that are worn by the young lovers of Kit Kat are suggestive of their social values.

Kit Kat is not just a sweet treat; it has several other health benefits associated with it. The fact that Kit Kat contains a relatively high percentage of sugar (leaving little room for added fats or snacks), has led to claims that it promotes obesity. Further claims have suggested that the sweet, fruity flavor of the chocolate helps increase the secretion of fat into the bloodstream.

However, some argue that the weight loss benefits of Kit Kat are exaggerated and that the real health benefits are found in other snack foods like peanuts. Regardless of these arguments, there is no doubt that Kit Kat has spread its use far and wide. Kit Kat has become an instant hit with children, especially those who enjoy the candy bar as a treat. One reason for this success is the packaging and the marketing of the product. Kit Kat wafers are packaged in attractive little boxes resembling popular cartoon characters.

Because Kit Kat wafers are very easy to eat, they are ideal for consumption while traveling. They can be taken anywhere without any fear of choking or burning the hands when the wrappers are ripped open. It would seem that Kit Kat's success is likely to continue as long as parents continue to encourage their children to have fun with this chocolate bar. No doubt, the wafers will never lose their appeal, but as things move forward, we may see a decline in their popularity.
