Licorice May Reduces Stress and Acid Reflux
Licorice has been used for treating a range of conditions including diabetes and cancer, as well as being a popular sweetener and natural pain reliever. It's been around for centuries but is now enjoying a resurgence in popularity as a weight loss aid and as a potential anti-aging treatment, thanks largely to an abundance of scientific research confirming its benefits. Results of the two-week study showed that participants who took part in the study's licorice root extract group had a statistically significant improvement in mean score for all factors considered, including mean, overall body weight, mean heart rate, heart disease events, hospitalization for any type of heart problems, mean total daily consumption of alcohol, mean number of days the individual spent using tobacco products (smoker or non-smoker), and mean number of days the individual used drugs other than tobacco. The researchers noted that these findings are important and encouraging since they indicate that licorice root extract "may exert protective and preventative effects on various diseases." The study's results also indicate that future studies should examine the potential for licorice to provide such benefits in other areas as weight loss, dental health, mental health, nutrition, and even arthritis and asthma. In addition, the investigators specifically recommend that further studies be conducted to examine the effects of licorice on patients with HIV/AIDS, diabetes and adenopathy.
