Licorice Root Benefits For Blood Pressure and Heart Rhythm
Licorice is probably best known by name only; Licorice roots are so hard to crush that it has been used as a sport of snacking for many years. After using licorice root extract for two weeks, the women who had the acid reflux problem did not get any better. This was not discouraging for the pharmaceutical companies who are trying to introduce a new standard treatment for this condition.
The good news is that licorice extract may help treat some of the symptoms of this painful disease. Three of the four women had mild or moderate acid reflux, but the third woman had severe acid reflux and needed to change her medication. The manufacturers of the standard medication do not recommend that a person take their over-the-counter medications longer than two weeks. But when the study ended, they announced that they would be adding an anti-inflammatory ingredient to the products.
This is excellent news for those people who suffer from painful skin conditions like eczema, dermatitis and rashes. The test-tube evidence is very encouraging. This test-tube development could eventually lead to the production of anti-inflammatory medications for these conditions. And licorice root has several other potential benefits. One of them is that it could be a powerful antioxidant.
Low potassium levels can cause the abnormal contraction of the ventricular muscle in the heart, which is directly linked to a variety of serious diseases. Licorice could potentially help to normalize the potassium levels in the blood stream. Another of the licorice health benefits is its ability to stimulate the immune system. Research on lab mice indicated that it was capable of boosting the strength and number of white blood cells. Licorice root has so many beneficial properties, and it only makes sense that we should be including it in our regular health regimen.
