Making Soda Colorful
One of my favourite childhood memories is of me as a child walking down the street and spotting a can of soda. My interest in soda was only recently restored, so that was a particularly interesting connection. As a child I had always assumed it was one of the more unhealthy forms of candy, but as an adult I've come to think it actually was a much healthier alternative than other kinds. Now why was soda flavour better than other flavours? What were the advantages? Why were they so much better?
Soda has always been one of my favourite sweets, and while I used to get my calories from diet drinks, now I try to go beyond that. The problem with diet drinks is that they are made almost entirely from sugar and are only a short-term solution to your weight problems. Soda is a natural sugar substitute, so it fills you up for a longer time and doesn't cause as many calories as sugary alternatives. There are many forms of soda to choose from in the world today, but one of the most classic flavours is soda from the candy store.
Bottled water is certainly one of my favourite beverages, and yet many people think it's delicious too! Of course, I have a personal preference too, which is why I like both bottled water and plain old bottled water, but beyond that there isn't a huge difference between them. As far as drinks go though, water from the tap tastes pretty awful to me, but I don't really notice the difference between it and bottled water. This is because I am tasting the flavour of the liquid itself, and not the sugary artificial flavouring!
Soda from the candy store is different. Candy store candy has a very distinct, albeit artificial, taste. Candy shop products are full of preservatives and flavourings, so that when you buy something, say a candy bar, you know that what you're buying is all-natural and probably organic too. Candy from the candy store is generally not packaged well either, which makes it harder for the flavour to really show through. For this reason, I usually only buy candy from the candy store if I know it's an all natural product, like a Krackel or Lemon Dessert Roll.
Most people who like water on a regular basis also like soda too! Water from the tap tastes pretty bland to me, but some people absolutely love it. So why not combine the two? You can get a refreshing soft drink with a hint of soda flavour as part of a refreshing water package.
This method of mixing the two hasn't caught on in the UK just yet, but it's surely something to consider in the future. Water softeners and bottled water are already competing against one another, so it stands to reason that more Brits will start to drink purified water out of a plastic bottle too. If you want to be able to get a taste of soda, you can mix it with your water too, without having to drink pure water! The Brits have been drinking purified water from bottles for decades now, so it's only natural to eventually be able to buy purified waters to mix with your regular water too. Pop, soda, water; what's better than a combination of three favourite American drinks?
