Making Soda Colour Candies
Have you ever tried the soda flavour that's usually sold at your local grocery store? It's generally made from either carbonated water or de-carbonated water. Sometimes it's sweetened with a little bit of food colour or artificial flavouring. You'll probably be shocked by how ordinary this soda can be and how tasty it is once you learn how to make it yourself.
These days most people are looking for healthier alternatives to regular candy. De-caffeinated is better than no caffeine at all. But even with that in mind, candy store owners aren't going to give up their fattening soda flavours just because you're switching things up. There's still going to be some who insist on buying their favourite flavours regardless of what you do.
The first step is to get the supplies. You need to buy some type of container in which to hold the mixture while it solidifies. Choose something like a large ceramic bowl that has a lid on it. You can buy them in bulk if you want to, or if you're feeling extra fancy, you can make your own. For a quick recipe for making your own caramel syrup, try the caramel dip ice cream recipe on a stick. It's quite good and holds a lot of flavour.
Making your own candy can save a TON of money, and also ensures that you know exactly what flavour you're buying. For instance, if you go to the grocery store to buy a bag of M&Ms, then you know whether or not one of them contains chocolate or just plain sugar. If you try to sell these same sweets at a candy store, they might suspect a reason. So, by making your own you can be sure to sell it on the spot (without them suspecting a thing).
Next you'll have to get the ingredients. Look for the cheapest things you can find, but still good quality. Things like baking soda and vinegar are great for making your own soda flavour. For example, you could use baking soda to add the sugar to when the candy is still in it's shell, or you can take some of the M&Mit out and put the top back on. You could also mix up a small bowl of water with some juice and pour it into a spray bottle for a stronger, cleaner taste.
Finally, you need to get all of your supplies together. Get some plastic bags and cut offs, some sugar, and of course some water. Put everything into a single container, and try to seal it up tightly. If you're going to try to sell the candies, you should be able to give them out as either a can, a bar, or as a pack. Make sure it says "candy" on the label, and you should be fine.
