Pastry is simply a dough of butter, flour and salt that can be sweetened or savoury. Sweetened pastries often come in the form of candy bars. The word "pastry" means many kinds of bakery products made from different ingredients like flour, salt, sugar, eggs, shortening, baking soda and other baking ingredients. These pastries may contain any number of ingredients and are used for many different purposes.
Pastry chef or pastry cooks are professionals who create and bake pastries, cake mixes, sponge cakes, pies, loaf or cookbooks and biscuits. To become a pastry chef, a person needs to obtain formal training from an approved institution.
