Reese Peanut Butter Cups Has To become America's Favourite Chocolate
Reese Peanut Butter Cups were an American snack food consisting of a thick chocolate flavored cup topped with sugar, made by The Hershey Company. They were first made on November 15, 1928, by H. B. Reese, an old dairy farmer and later shipping supervisor for Milton S. Hershey. When he discovered that his product sold faster than any other chocolate bar in his warehouse, he invested the rest of his money to expand his business and open a second manufacturing facility in North Philadelphia. In return, Hersheypark, Inc. granted him a contract to produce Hershey's Pretzels.

The first available Reese Peanut Butter Cups had chocolate as the only filling. The original was a simple chocolate bar with no other filling. It had peanuts, raisins or other powdered candy as the other filling. This was probably because there were not many other manufacturers in existence at that time who made chocolate bars with other fillings. The chocolate and peanut butter combination was a very popular one, therefore, it was only natural that they would be sold as a combo.
Reeses lasted about one year before being discontinued. On July 4, 1930, the company returned to the traditional cup design, but this time had small paper bags instead of chocolate bars. Production moved from the traditional Hershey plant in Philadelphia, PA to factories in Ohio and Kentucky. When the Reeses returned to the market, they were quickly discontinued again. The chocolate that remained in the tin was not as popular as before.
Some confections assumed new names when they were discontinued. One example is the Kit Kat Candy. When it was discontinued, the candy took on a new name which was Kit Kat Gold. This became extremely popular as people searched for a substitute.
Candy lovers everywhere clamored to get their hands on this popular product. Reese Peanut Butter Cups became the new "it" candy for kids. These cups were available in every flavor including the very popular chocolate. The fact that it was an edible item made this a very attractive product brand for candy makers to carry.
These delicious cookies first became available in the marketplace in October, 1930. After they were initially introduced, they quickly became popular. Candy manufacturers started using peanut butter as the main ingredient in their chocolate. The demand for this product was so great, that candy makers soon found themselves inundated with orders for this product. At that point in time, the product line also included banana creme. The first chocolate covered pretzels were also created by Reese Peanut Butter.
The chocolate version was not only limited to one flavor - milk chocolate. In fact, it was not long before different flavors of chocolate became available, such as dark chocolate and milk chocolate. When the demand for these cups grew, the company moved their manufacturing operations to cover the entire country. Reese Peanut Butter Cups soon became a household name.
The standard Reese Peanut Butter cup has become one of the most popular cup designs for candy bars. Although the original dark chocolate was the first to use this filling, other versions quickly followed. These different flavors were only offered in certain flavors of this cup, however, until the standard cup was discontinued in 1980. After that time, the only other flavor available was milk chocolate.
For several years, a number of different manufacturers made a "Reese" butter cup, but it was not until they introduced a" Pistachio" chocolate filling that the product really took off. That said, the Reese's name has since been used for chocolate bars, not just the traditional butter cup. Other manufacturers soon began making a chocolate bar that included the Reese's name on it, as well as other ingredients, and called them "Reese's Own". As is often the case with companies that have a solid reputation, these Reese's Own chocolate bars soon became the very best selling chocolate bars.
The "Reese's Own" chocolate bars quickly experienced phenomenal success. Today, almost all of the "Reese's Own" candy confections represent a significant market share of the total chocolate confectionery market. It should be noted, however, that the white chocolate version is the most popular today. The white chocolate filling has consistently proven to be the most delicious and desirable of all the variations available primarily because of its rather outstanding taste.
Today there are also several varieties of non-traditional Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. These include: peanut butter sandwich, peanut butter angel food, chocolate covered raisins, chocolate-covered peanuts, and peanut butter toffee balls. These varieties have all experienced great success and are experiencing growth in sales. With so much success behind the Reese Peanut Butter name it is only a matter of time before the "Reese's" name becomes as synonymous with the American family as "Jelly Belly" or as beloved as Fritos.
