Hard candy was first introduced in 1908 with the creation of Hard Candy. This candy was made out of sugarcane and was advertised as "The World's Most Fondant". Candy Barons were the first to use this particular marketing technique to increase their sales. It has continued to gain popularity to this day as nostalgic candy is made available in candy bars.

Many retro candy stores display old fashioned gummi candy bars & tootsie roll candy. You are sure to locate various flavors such as butterscotch, marshmallow and cookie dough. You are also sure to find gum, hard, nutty and many other kinds. There are also many that offer an assortment of different types that will satisfy any sweet tooth.

In addition to the candy that is retro, there are also a variety of other products that have been retro candy and introduced to the market in recent years. One of these is bubble gum. This product has been around for quite awhile and many consumers like to snack on this sweet product when they want a small bit of sweetness.

Bubble gum was first introduced about five years later and became one of America's favorite sweets during the fifties. The gum was initially designed to be used with cigarettes and as a replacement for chewing gum. This small candy was quickly noticed by tobacco companies who saw how popular it would become and they quickly patented the bubble gum and began to market it as a substitute to the regular gum and had people clamoring to purchase it.

The tootsie roll was created during the early fifties as well. This product was quickly nicknamed "Tootsie Roll" by children and was designed to look just like a tootsie roll that the older generation to enjoy. When chewing was not an option, the manufacturer simply wrapped up the candy bar in a tootsie roll and packaged it in a can. It soon became so popular that the tootsie roll candy bar quickly sold out and was discontinued in many stores all over the country.

Both the tootsie roll and the gummi candy bar experienced huge popularity in the following years. Candy companies again made great efforts to come up with more creative packaging for their products and to bring out even more nostalgia for consumers. One of the best ways to do this is to produce packaging resembling those packages from years past. One of the most notable of these retro candy packaging efforts was released about four years after the Great Depression, in which many candy companies came out with gummi candy in a can rather than a traditional candy bar. Another great retro candy offering was a candy bar that was packaged in the shape of a bottle of oil.

Both of these retro candy bars proved very popular, especially in the African-American community. The Depression had a significant impact on the way that black Americans dealt with their finances, particularly with the lack of solid jobs. Many of them found it difficult to buy candy that was not only popular but affordable. These two candies served as a constant source of entertainment for them and as well as providing some financial stability. They were also quite enjoyable to eat.
