Review of "Harry Potter: Chocolate Frog" by Suzanne Collins
One of the most interesting Potter related books is Chocolate Frog by Ian McEwan. It tells the story of three chocolate frogs that were left in an orphanage after a witch killed their family. They escaped to a chocolate marsh and have to survive on their own for several weeks. There they come across an abandoned boat and a magical frog who will teach them about friendship, sacrifice and the importance of friendship in their world.
I especially love the author's take on the whole chocolate frog/poisoning mystery. The fact that it's set in modern day, England doesn't detract from the strange tale. The frogs find themselves in a chocolate marsh but there's more going on than meets the eye. It seems that the entire town has been cursed and is run by three very powerful, evil magicians. They force the frogs to serve them and poison them to death.
After this initial introduction it's up to Harry, Ron and Hermione to unravel the mystery and save the frogs. Along the way they are joined by some other interesting characters like Crabbe and Goyle, and even some one-of-a-kind items such as the Webley-Fosbery Cup and the Memory Stone. The combination of different items, potions and spells make this a fun and fast-moving book that keeps you turning the pages.
Ian McEwan does a great job of making this book entertaining. He manages to keep the reader engaged through the many scenes that he writes in between the main events. Each chapter begins with a thrilling moment and quickly leads to another exciting chapter. You can't wait to read the next one, knowing that every sentence is full of entertainment and takes you to a different adventure.
As a fan of both J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the British series of books revolving around the same characters as Harry, I was thrilled when I found out that I would be able to enjoy one of the more popular books set in the Harry Potter universe. My daughter adores chocolate frogs and any accessories that come with them (such as cupcakes). This book not only makes me happy as a fan of J.K. Rowling and her wonderful story, but as a Mom who wants to share in her daughter's enjoyment of the world around her. I hope that others who have enjoyed J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter will feel the same way about this latest book.
This is just another example of how J.K. Rowling creates powerful characters that we care about. She has created a character who we connect with on several levels. As a result, we feel a strong connection to him and cheer for him when he is in trouble. This latest book in the Harry Potter series will most likely be among my top sellers! My daughter is already looking forward to her next reading, knowing that it will be another successful escape into the amazing world that J.K. Rowling has created for us to enjoy.
