The History of Kit Kat

The simple story of how a Kit Kat, once a British candy export, became an overnight sensation in Japan is an unlikely one. On a bright, summer day in July 1965, a young man from Coventry, England, John Cappuccio, arrived at the Kit Kat candy store in Tokyo with a suitcase. He'd had a long, miserable trip and was drinking a porter. When he saw the sweet, gooey confectionary in a bright red tin, he knew he had found the answer to his prayers.
The story of how the Kit Kat became a world-known candy bar is an unlikely one. Kit Kat was invented in a small town called Kitakyosu, in Hokkaido, Japan, by a young man who happened to visit the local candy store that day. The shopkeeper told him his candy bar tasted like plastic and he asked him to create a chocolate drink. Cappuccio wasn't interested. He wanted to make his chocolate drink into a candy bar. His first attempt failed miserably, so he decided to give it another try.
He placed three scoops of melted chocolate into a ceramic tube. He poured water over the heated chocolate to keep it from sticking to the walls. The candy was ready to be poured into small plastic cups. As soon as he lifted the cup, he heard a ringing sound and saw a large hole in one corner of the cup. The hole had popped due to hot chocolate being spilled on the tin.
After pouring his heart into the experiment, Cappuccio returned to his hotel and waited for his chocolate to cool. When he looked out the window, he noticed people were already buying the new Kit Kat bars from the market. So, he called his friend Leonardo who lived in a nearby town and they decided to share a few dollars to earn some quick money and get rich someday. Before leaving, Cappuccio bought a book on how to make candy bars. In this book, he learned that it is very important to use the right ingredients in the right proportion. After successfully creating the first Kit Kat bar, he knew he had a hit in his hands.
In a few days, the local market carried Kit Kat in different flavors such as chocolate and lemon, fruit, mint and carrot, and oatmeal. Because of its uniqueness, it gained more popularity and demand from kids and adults. Its price was also reasonable, so more people are buying it, and now you can buy candy bars in different flavors.
Although, Kit Kat has its roots from Italy, people from all over the world have tried to adapt the taste. Since there are many flavors, one cannot just buy any candy bar and make it into a Kit Kat. Many recipes have been invented by combining the favorite flavors of people from different countries. One example is the American flavored Kit Kat. Due to globalization, there is a chance for every country to produce their own version of the Kit Kat candy bar.
