The Joys of Airheads
Airheads are gum balls that are made by the Gum Company, also known as FRS Gums. They are shaped like gumballs, but they have a hard shell that breaks down over time, exposing the gum inside to air. The gum is not highly flavored, but has a very sweet flavor that kids love to chew on. Although there are several different flavors and colors available, the one that is most popular is called Sour Belts. These are candies that are colored purple and come in a dozen different assortments.
When you buy Airheads, they are in several different sizes, depending on how small or large your child's mouth is. You can find them in gumball size, which is about the size of a matchbox, or in a candy version that is about twice the size of a matchbox. Many people like to add toothpaste to their Airheads because they taste so good when they are melted in the mouth.
Children love to play with these sweet, sugary candies, and many parents have been buying them for their children since they were introduced. The gum is one of the main causes of dental cavities in young children. Airheads are not considered a toy in the United States because of this, and many countries have banned them entirely. If you want to give an Airhead to a child, be sure that it is certified by the American Dental Association and the United States Food and Drug Administration.
Because they melt in the mouth, it is not recommended that young children play with them. However, if they are given to very young children, such as those who like to chew gum constantly, they can become a great pastime. To make the gum more palatable, some companies include a piece of fruit in the gum. Airheads are not as popular as they once were, and they do not last long when they are melted in your mouth.
If you decide to let your kids chew on Airheads, there are some things that you should know. Do not leave them unattended in your house or garage. You should also make sure that the gum is very fresh. Airheads that are left out in the open are not likely to dissolve into candy.
As a final note, Airheads may cause gum disease if you do not brush regularly. Regular brushing and flossing will keep your teeth and gums healthy. If you are not brushing as often as you should, consider purchasing an additional toothbrush with a larger head. Airheads are great, but if you do not brush often enough, they will get caught in between your teeth and get stuck. This will cause a bad odor and could damage your teeth.
