The Rise of Kit Kat

Kit Kat is a candy bar manufactured internationally by Nestle, except in the U.S., where it is produced under license by the H. M. Revere Candy Company, a subsidiary of the Hershey Company. Kit Kat was first made by Rowntree's Inc. of York, United Kingdom, that was acquired by Nestle in 1988. The first British television commercial for Kit Kat was aired on Channel 4, and a second one was broadcast on the same channel. In the U.K., Kit Kat is known as "Reese's Candy." The American version is more commonly referred to as "Candy Bar," although there are several variations of spelling that can also be seen. On March 8th, 2021, The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office informed the makers of Kit Kat that it would suspend future patent applications relating to the name, because Kit Kat has already become a registered trademark in the U.S. Kit Kat itself does not carry a trademark.

The company produces a number of different candy bars, each bearing its own unique formula and flavor. As of 2021, Nestle had more than 22 patents for its candy bars, including Kit Kat, including but not limited to bubble gums, gummy bear lollipops, and slosh drinks. It also manufactures Kit Kat K-Cups, which are similar to Reebok and Adidas products. Although Kit Kat has become extremely popular in all countries, particularly in Japan, it has had the greatest success in the U.K.

As with many other candy brands, Kit Kat has introduced a wide variety of new flavors, each designed to compete with rival candy bars such as Laffy Taffys and Ferret Bliss. "Reese's Own" Kit Kat, for example, is essentially a peanut butter and chocolate bar that offer consumers a taste of chocolate, but without the excessive fat that many of Kit Kat's competitors have. There is even a Kit Kat version of Laffy Taffys. "Taffy" is short for "taffy," so the product is called both "Reese's own" and "taffy."

Kit Kat has also introduced an entire range of Kit Kat wafers, ranging from plain chocolate wafers to chocolate mint wafers, and fruit wafers to tea wafers. Most wafers are flat and round, although there are some that have a slightly irregular shape. All wafers are available in three layers, each containing a selection of different toppings, and each layer's taste can be adjusted by adding more or less cream or milk. Some varieties of Kit Kat wafers have a special slot at the bottom to hold a miniature chocolate treat.

Kit Kat has gone through several design changes over the years, mostly related to the different flavors of chocolate that are offered, although the basic design remains largely the same. The plain chocolate bars still come in single layered wafers, but newer versions have an opening at the top edge for an alternative "hotter" flavor of chocolate, such as mint or cinnamon. Kit Kat has also gone through several different lines, such as Kit Kat Swing, in an effort to broaden their appeal. Each line has its own unique style, with varying designs such as those used in children's parties (with interlocking letters spelling out letters in chalk) or in adult parties (a Kit Kat bar that has an arrow going down the middle and a handle on one end).

Kit Kat has also expanded into other types of food items, such as serving wafers as plates. They have also launched a line of "kicker" bread rolls that are covered in chocolate. These new products are a clear sign that the "Husky" brand will have great staying power, especially as parents seek a healthier option for their children.
