Theater Box Candy - Who Invented and Loved Theater Boxes?

Have you ever been to the movie theater and purchased a theater box? If so, then you know that the theater box will come with an offer to buy a snack from the candy store. This is great for anyone who loves popcorn but is limited on where they can purchase their popcorn. The theater box is also good for purchasing other snacks like nuts or candy.

For many years, the theater has offered a special treat to patrons that will open their box and if they put in a penny, they can have a free peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or any other sweet and savory treat for that matter. This was probably the first of its kind as the candy store did not yet exist. After people started placing their money in the box, the manufacturer decided to create a package that would be the same shape and size as the theater boxes. They called it the sweet and sour patch. The theater went with this package and soon, the candy business was born.

The term sweet and sour got its name from the type of product that was offered. Candy that was sweet at one point and sour at another. These two contrasting flavors had to be balanced to appeal to the customers. A large candy corporation decided to create a third flavor and named it after the candy store. They called it the sour and sweet patch. The manufacturer's thought process was that if the product was consumed quickly, then people would not mind the bitter and sour taste of what they were eating.

Candy in the theater was not a huge success until the late 1960's. This was the decade when movies became more of a novelty and people were becoming more health conscious. Since many of the movies were very graphic, there was the concern for parents about what their children were eating. They wanted to keep them away from the candy stores and movie theaters. This was not a difficult task because there are still plenty of places to buy candy in most areas.

The big change in theater food came about because concession operators realized that they could make a lot more money by offering candy. Candy from the concession stands became a huge hit and the demand kept growing. Concessionaires were no longer interested in selling foods that they did not think were popular. The candy, with its sugary, salty, and sweet qualities was appealing to the broadest audience possible.

As the years went on, manufacturers became aware that the older the audience, the better the candy would have to be. The theater tends to get trickier, with more perishable items, so candy companies began making chocolates that could withstand the heat and moisture that go into an actual theater. Chocolates can stay fresh up to 24 hours after they have been wrapped. They also do not spoil as fast.

Candy in the theater has come a long way since its beginning. The theater boxes are still used to store the candy and they are generally not allowed to be opened until the end of the show or movie. Many theaters now place candy bars on the box sides to make them appealing to children. Candy also comes in different types such as chewing gum, hard candy, and hard candy with a hard coating. Candy is now used in many different settings both in the movie theater and in school lockers.

Candy does not have to be confined to the theater. Candy is a popular treat for children during family dinners in the backyard. The market for candy has grown and there are many forms and varieties of it that can be purchased at any grocery store. Candy has even made its way into the corporate offices as employees bring their favorite candy to work. Corporate America has even taken notice of the fact that candy is not only enjoyed by children but has become a staple for many working people throughout the country. The sweet treat can be enjoyed just as much at home as anywhere.
