Top 20 Retro Candy For Christmas

Sweetarts Candy from The Willy Wonka Candy Company would be a retro candy of the 1960's. People never get enough of those sweet, uniquely tart and sugary combination of those sweet creations. Unwrap a piece of Sweetarts Candy from the candy store and let the Sweet Dreams begins to run down your throat. This candy has been around for a very long time, but it was not always so popular back then. Back then, it was more of a novelty item than what it is today.

We are so familiar with the candy we all know and love, that it seems too familiar and old school candy store is where we first think of when we hear of retro candy. It wasn't always this way, however. Candy Lovers realised there were more than fifty different varieties of candy that could be bought in the candy store and so they created many new types. Sweetarts became a hugely successful brand name and their products swept the nation.

What happened between the days when the very first retro candy bar was created and now is that there are literally thousands of retro candy bar varieties available? The company has created various different types such as: caramels, toffees, gum drops, sherbet lemons, licorice and more. The list of candies that have been around since the turn of the 20th century is quite impressive.

Candy Lovers became a household name because of their retro designs, packaging and promotions. The tagline, "sweet dreams are made on a chocolate bar" became an instantly recognisable logo for candy lovers. If you have ever walked into a candy store during the holiday season, you will have seen them everywhere. They are not only sweet and delicious but have a nostalgic feel to them. People love them for the classic candy themed designs but also because they look fresh and are a good source of fibre!

Candy Lovers are not only sweets that resemble traditional chocolates; they also have other creative elements such as: vintage fonts, old-fashioned packaging and even cow tales. You often see retro candy marketed as a healthy treat that is hardly the case as the main ingredient is sugar! This may have been the intention all along but it has not sat well with the general public. In fact, they have gained notoriety as being sugary and not at all healthy.

Another interesting aspect of retro candy is the clever way in which they are marketed. Candy Lovers use various tactics to promote themselves such as: retro logo's, vintage style packaging and even pop rocks. Pop rocks are small rocks with a label on them; they were developed in 1950 by Wrigley, who was the co-inventor of the chewing gum. Since then, they have gone through several major evolutions and are now one of the best selling candies around since they resemble the shape of a pop rock but are crunchy instead.

The last major creation from the retro candy kingdom is; the Charlsburg Chew Candy Bar. The inspiration for this creation was a design that was seen on an old episode of "Famous Five" television show. These creations made their way onto the shelves of many candy shops and are extremely popular due to the retro look. The original design incorporated a candy bar shape with two circular lollipops, which when combined create the classic candy bar shape.

Each of these retro candy pieces is extremely unique due to the different shapes and colours that each piece comes in; the bottom line is, they all create a great candy experience that kids of all ages will enjoy. There are plenty more retro styles for you to check out. As you can see, they have come a long way from the simple sugar coated sugars that they were once. Take a trip down memory lane and try some of your favourite retro sweets, whether they are shaped like pop rocks or wax lips you're sure to be pleased with their classic taste.
