Top 20 Retro Candy Treats

Sweetarts Candy from The Willy Wonka Candy Company would be a true retro candy of the 1960's. Kids just love them and adults enjoy them also. Candy Lovers never seem to get enough of this uniquely sweet and creamy combination of the candy. The classic candy bar has a great nostalgic appeal that seems to be alive and well today. The nostalgic candy scent is hard to ignore.

The reason why they are so good, is because they remind us so much of our childhood. My Grandmother and Grandpa used to get them in their school and college days. The smell of those candies would always make me feel good. I still get chills whenever I smell their aromas.

The retro candy bar came about after World War II. They have been around since at least the 1970's. You can even say that candy making has become an American tradition. Most Americans will associate candy with their childhood was made better with these candy bars. They are something that everyone likes and everyone remembers having around since they first came out.

Let's talk about the history of these candy creations. They have their roots in a sweet tale that was told by a lady. Candy has been around since ancient times. In fact, it is believed that the earliest candy makers were cave dwellers who made sweets out of nuggets of masticated animals. Who knows what the story was really about. There are many stories around us about how people used masticated nuts as an ingredient to make candy.

Around the same time as candy making evolved, candies were being prepared using wax lips. Wax lips were very good at preserving the flavour of the candies. That is why the name "chocolates" was derived from the Latin word which means, "baking". So, you might not like the taste of these old school candy bars but if you like chocolates, then you will love these.

Now, let's talk about some of the flavours that we can find in retro candies. We have all heard of popcorn and nuts and other types of nuts that are eaten around the globe. Candy making became popular when this delicious confection was introduced to the world. We can trace the humble origins of popcorn to the ancient Egyptians. Popcorn is just one of those things that have remained around since the ancient times.

We also have the classic candy of the 80's that is the Charleston Chew Candy Bar. It is very much in demand these days because it gave way to more sophisticated flavours like mint. These caramel and chocolate-flavored bars are made with real caramel syrup and the best part is that it is very affordable. In fact, it is a little more expensive than the conventional gum that we are used to having around since the latter was just produced for the masses not as a luxury item.

Another in the list of our favourite retro candy treats is the original Boston cream cheese candy bar that we are all familiar with. The classic yellow cake that we are all used to having has now been transformed into a gourmet item. The top 20 retro candy treats are: peanut butter and jelly, cream puffs, chocolate kisses, caramel twists, blueberry pies, rocky scallops, chocolate salami, gingerbread men, macadamia nut caramels, white chocolate caramels, triple chocolate chips, and of course, the classic Boston cream cheese. We must warn you though that the peanut butter and jelly could cause an allergic reaction if you have a history of peanuts or shellfish allergies. However, the salami and macadamia nut caramels and the rocky scallops are safe for all!
