Toy Candy - Safety Tips
Clear plastic toy candies, also known as fillers or hard candy, is an old traditional candy that originated in Germany, England & Scotland. It is particularly popular at Easter and Halloween. The original hard candy is usually produced in a myriad of fanciful shapes, typically red, yellow and green. These days most hard candy comes in a myriad of colors such as blue, purple, pink, white, purple, green, orange, yellow and even orange and black. These colors are mainly produced to help children differentiate between sweet, savory and crunchy candy.
When buying hard candy from a candy store, it is important that you check the color before purchasing it. Although candy companies claim that their product is 100% safe, it is still important to keep a few things in mind when shopping at a candy store. If the color of the candy differs from the color of the package, this could be a sign of a harmful substance that could have been included inside the candy. Also, candy that has "nutrient-dye" in the ingredient label may not be safe for young children to consume, since some of these products contain small amounts of lead that could be dangerous for them.
It is always wise to never give a child a toy that they cannot eat. Always put the candy you're going to give away in a separate container than the one your child will eat it in. This way if a small piece of candy catches your child's eye, they will not ingest any of it accidentally. Also, make sure you supervise children when they are playing with any type of candy. If a child accidentally eats a piece of candy that they were not told to avoid, there is a chance that it can cause them harm.
A lot of children love to play with small pieces of candy and this may eventually cause them to choke on it. When this happens, it is imperative that you call 911 immediately. Another thing that you should do is put the candy in a sealed box and then take it to the hospital right away. Some of the most common reasons why small pieces of candy may choke include, small pieces of foreign objects in their mouths, excessive chewing of the candy, and swallowing the candy, too much air in the mouth, and many other things.
If you are shopping at a toy store, you should never leave any candy inside of a bag or wrapper. Even if a toy looks clean, it may have been left out in the sun, or in a hot car, and this can cause it to become moldy. Always inspect any bag or wrapper that you buy for loose pieces of candy or any other reason. You should also look over the packaging of the candy before you buy it so that you will know which portions of the candy have been tampered with. If there is candy residue on the package, this means that the person who sold the candy has probably tampered with it as well.
Last but not least, it is important to supervise any child who is playing with small pieces of candy. You may think that these kids are being too playful with the candy, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. If you have small children around your home, you should always keep an eye on them.
