Types of Hershey's Chocolate

Chocolate has been a popular treat for many years. Since the dark, rich, and bitter confectionary has first been sold around the Mediterranean, it has enjoyed a steady popularity throughout the centuries. With a history that spans thousands of years, chocolate has found itself on decks of cards, in paintings, and carved woodwork. Even the religious tradition of Christianity started off with chocolate consumption, as confections were given to Jesus by the disciples.

The Hershey Company, also known as Hershey's, is a global giant and one of the biggest candy manufacturers in the United States. It not only makes chocolate beverages, including milkshakes and cookies, but sells other baked treats, including pastries and cakes. The Hershey Company has its main facility in Hershey, Pennsylvania, which was originally built as a candy manufacturing facility for the manufacture of chocolate. The Milton Hershey Medical Center, in Hershey, PA, serves many patients every year who need major medical care, from surgeries to dental care.

One of Hershey's most popular treats is their original chocolate candy bar, which is sold in dozens of different flavors, each containing Hershey's proprietary "Cocoa Butter" chocolate. Cocoa butter contains trace amounts of essential fatty acids, which are vital to the body. Many of today's commercial chocolate candies have cocoa butter as an ingredient, but the Hershey Chocolate brand adds a little more. After all, in order for chocolate to taste good, it must contain cocoa butter.

For those wanting to consume a healthier alternative to Hershey's chocolate, there is a wide selection of all natural, organic Hershey's Chocolate bars. These Hershey's Chocolate bars contain no artificial ingredients or other fillers, but offer a significantly lower amount of calories than their traditional chocolate counterparts. In addition to their lower calorie count, they are also free from hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup, two of the highest sources of calories in commercial chocolate candy. These Hershey's chocolate bars are also available in several different flavors, so shoppers can easily find one that appeals to them. In addition to their all natural, organic counterparts, they also offer three different milk chocolate bars: white, milk, and dark.

Hershey's Tree of Life is another name brand of Hershey's chocolate candy. Tree of Life offers chocolate bites of a variety of delicious flavors, including banana nut, chocolate caramel and peanut butter cups. Each of these flavors is topped with a Hershey's "Lil' My Love" label, which is an additional way for consumers to identify Hershey's chocolate products. The Tree of Life chocolate bars are not considered diet food, but they do contain sugar. They are not a substitute for a regular chocolate bar, but some dietitians believe that consuming them may be helpful in maintaining weight loss because they contain small amounts of natural sugar.

Hershey's has a large selection of other, more traditional chocolate candy bars as well, including chocolates with several varieties of nuts. The following flavors are offered by Hershey's: Old-Fashioned Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Mint Mocha, Dark Chocolate, Caramel Chocolate, White Chocolate and Watermelon. For individuals who prefer their chocolate to be more natural, Hershey's also offers Smores, a less-traditional alternative to chocolates that contains sugar. Hershey's sells all of its candy in various forms, including Hershey's Own Brand Candy Bars, Hershey's Own Mixes, KitchensAid Mini Decorations, Tootsie Roll Candies, and assorted confections including Wham Bar, Mint Juleps, Chocolate Dipped M&M's, and Popcorn.
