What Are Airheads?
Airheads are an air-headed candy made by Dutch company Perfetti Van Melle from Erlanger, Kentucky. The gum is made of crushed gums with a little bit of salt. This candy was the first gum to be produced using the new machine gumball machine that later became the standard in the United States.
Airheads are also called Sweetarts, although not officially. They were named this way because all the packaging, boxes, and the gum are decorated with Valentine's Day colors. There are gumballs of every Valentine's Day flowers, including roses, daisies, orchids, and even thimbles.
Gums are usually covered with a sticky white wax. This wax dries hard so that airheads can be sucked into the gum and swallowed whole. The candy has a very distinctive flavor and color, which make it very popular. The gum can also be used as a candy taffy, a very popular item at this time.
Airheads taffy comes in 22 count packages, making them larger than other candy styles. These taffy packs are filled with airheads, but they have holes in them.
