What Are Reese Peanut Butter Cups?
Reese Peanut Butter Cups, or Reeses as they're also known, are an American candy made from a white chocolate shell filled with smooth creamy peanut butter. They were first produced on November 15, 1924, by H. B. Reese, an unemployed shipping clerk and dairy farmer living in Ohio. His family would often come to his home to give him money for food. He had been trying to create his own recipe for years but had not succeeded. One day, while washing his rice cooker, he noticed that the mixture for his recipe had gone off the shelf. On the back of the box it read "Reese's Peanut Butter Cups".
In response to the demand of people for a healthier alternative to butter filled cookies, Reese's made its first available product, in a gumball kind of shape. This product was very popular in America during the Great Depression. Many people were searching for alternatives to butter filling, so Reese's peanut butter filling was the first available alternative.
Reese Peanut Butter Cups quickly became an American icon. Their logo was soon emblazoned on coffee cups, mugs, shirts, hats, and much more. By the late 1940s, sales of the Reese Peanut Butter Cup product brand had reached a tremendous level, due to the success of the movie, "The Breakfast Club". The popularity of the product brand continued to grow throughout the World, as well as overseas.
In 1950, Reese Peanut Butter Cups was discontinued. The decision was based on the fact that manufacturing of the product was expensive. It was also found that the demand for the confections was not as great as it had been. Reese wanted to focus on the success of their cup chocolate biscuits and chocolate bar mix instead of concentrating on the confections. These were some of the reasons the product was discontinued.
In recent years, Reese's peanut butter has once again re-appeared on the market. While the chocolate is once again available in the traditional box, the filling is now sold as a snack mix instead of a traditional cup of chocolate. The mix is made with pieces of candies, nuts, raisins and other gourmet food items. The snack mix can be purchased in the candy aisle of most grocery stores. The product was again discontinued in 2004.
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups has made a slight comeback, as the demand for flavored chocolate fillings has increased. The chocolate filling is once again available in a traditional cup, but this time it is available in a twist. The twist gives the traditional look of the traditional cup but allows the chocolate filler to be eaten as an ingredient. This allows consumers to have both a chocolate filling and a nutritious snack without having to eat the entire cup of chocolate.
One of the most popular versions of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that has been released in recent years is the "Reese's Peanut Butter Caramel". The caramel flavor is similar to that of the original chocolate, but it has been infused with caramels. This version of the Reese's Peanut Butter Caramel is not made with the traditional marshmallows. This caramel was created by taking the popular white chocolate chips, heating them and then caramelizing them. This variation of the peanut butter cup has been extremely popular among young adults and children.
The first available version of the Reese's Peanut Butter Caramel was released in early 2000s. This delicious desert was extremely popular amongst people who were on diets. The new twist added to this offering was the addition of the caramels. Caramel is considered to be a fattening agent, therefore, many dieters were turned off by the idea of eating something that had caramels as a filling. However, the new version eliminated the unhealthy ingredients and gave dieters a great tasting treat.
