To his surprise, he found out that the new variety was so close to his own personal candy, the Morinaga. By suing the Hi-Chew company for copyright and patent infringement, he was able to put the Japanese market under control and dominate the American market with Morinaga.
Since the Hi-Chew purchase, there have been many changes to the candy. The first change was in the packaging. Since the candy is no longer shipped wrapped, it had to be changed to a more appealing package. And because the business model worked so well without the gum, it was necessary to find ways to make the gum smell more like the candy. This led to an almost doubling of the number of flavors, and an even bigger increase in the variety of flavours available - there are now over forty different flavours!
Some of the greatest hits of the Hi-Chew line are: the chewy strawberry candy, the chewy banana candy, the chewy chocolate candy, and of course, the most popular of all, the chewy chocolate sandwich candy. These are all original, popular, flavour-packed flavours that are extremely popular. The popularity of the flavours just shows how successful Hi-Chew has been - even with an array of competitors, none of them have been able to shake the sales power of Hi-Chew.
